Specialized Experience Requirement: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. For the GS-6: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal service. Examples are: Worked as a member of a trail maintenance crew on aggregate tread trails performing trail condition surveys, developing repair schedules, and implementing trail improvement projects; Maintained visitors use records and prepared visitors use information for data processing; Conducted education programs addressing Leave No Trace camping, wilderness philosophy, minimal stock impacts, or similar environmental topics; Followed trail maintenance schedules for the construction and reconstruction of trails and wilderness/recreation sites. For the GS-7: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 in the Federal service. Examples are: Conducted aggregate trail and recreation area condition inspections, documented work needs in data management systems, developed cost estimates, and organized or administered trail and recreation area projects; Assisted with developing and preparing annual trail operating plans based on approved direction for land management; Acted as contract inspector to inspect and report on contracted recreation work to ensure it meets contract specifications. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
