POSITION OBJECTIVE: Athenex is a global biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery, development, and commercialization of novel therapies for the treatment of cancer. Our lead product, Oraxol, is in phase 3 registrational study.

As we begin to build our U.S. commercial team, we are seeking a Senior Director, Market Access reporting to the Senior VP, Global Commercial Oncology. This role will develop and lead market/payer access strategy and execution for Oraxol as well as our emerging pipeline.

This position will lead the development of a US payer strategy, final payer value proposition, pricing, reimbursement and PAP (patient assistance program) for Oraxol. As part of the Athenex commercial leadership team, this person will collaborate with our partners and cross functional internal partners (medical, regulatory, marketing, sales, legal, compliance) to develop Oraxol’s US value strategy in preparation for commercial launch.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Develop global and US value strategy for Oraxol in close collaboration with marketing team and OUS partners

  • Lead the integration of the payer perspective into asset/tumor strategy with commercial/medical affairs/R&D peers and teams

  • Ensure the development and delivery to countries of optimal clinical and economic evidence generation

  • When appropriate, ensures the global market access and pricing strategies are cascaded to regions and countries with an actionable implementation plan

  • Lead development of Patient Assistance Program

  • Work with commercial team to map key accounts throughout the US to determine payer mix as well as account specific formulary and EHS inclusion process

  • Understand key pathways in place that may impact access at practice level

  • Develop Oraxol payer value proposition, value dossiers, formulary toolkits, health economic models, etc.

  • Partner with global HEOR consultants and US med affairs on HEOR strategy and planning

  • Collaborate with medical affairs to develop inclusion strategies with relevant pathway formulary decision makers

  • Partner with future US market access field-based teams on the development of market access strategies and tactics

  • Support organizational planning in anticipation of Oraxol launch, including developing market access resources/tools and requirements for successful commercialization

  • Develop key player initiatives and metrics to assess impact of key initiatives

  • Monitor evolving reimbursement/payer landscape including CMS and commercial payer requirements

  • Develop government affairs engagement plans

  • Manage relationships with vendors and consultants, including development and adherence to budgets

  • Understand and adhere to regulatory, legal and compliance guidelines

  • Provide market access input to support early pipeline and partnering projects

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, advanced degree preferred, additional science or health outcomes experience a plus

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in oncology market access and pricing in US

  • Experience in EU and major Asian markets

  • Experience in payer trends evaluating drivers of market access

  • Proven success in leading market access launch readiness planning and implementation

  • Experience in oncology fee for service, outpatient clinics, and hospital reimbursement processes

  • Experience and knowledge across multiple market channels including: payer, PBM, IDM, distribution, specialty pharmacy, GPO’s

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Proven strong collaboration across multiple functional teams

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently without significant management oversight

  • Desire to work in fast pace and growing environment

  • Ability to travel up to 30% (Domestic and International)
