Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Quality Manager, the Quality Technician documents quality levels by performing a variety of audits to ensure conformance with the company's quality standards. The Quality Technician works with Operations to perform root cause analysis and work on problems of a diverse scope.

Educational Requirements:

High School Diploma; however, 2 year Associates degree in a quality or technical field and/or ASQ certification in a recognized discipline is preferred.

Additional Requirements:

Minimum 2+ years of experience in a Quality function.

Knowledge of necessary measurement instruments and their utilization, such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, comparators, Vision Measuring and possibly Computer Measurement Machine (CMM) equipment to effectively evaluate blueprint/drawing dimensions. Knowledge of Geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T). A working knowledge of statistical and mathematical analysis along with scientific techniques to aid decision-making. Must understand and be able to apply the elements of the corrective/preventive action process, including root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis and the control of non-conforming material. Familiarity with a quality system such as ISO 9001 and proven ability to recognize and initiate applicable procedural changes. Competent computer skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitor raw materials; work in process and finished products to assure quality.

  • Perform quality system audits and initiate applicable procedural changes if required.

  • Provide training to operators as required.

  • Perform dimensional analysis and product testing as required.

  • Perform field failure analysis as required.

  • Maintain equipment and documentation files.

  • Coordinate data collection and summaries for individual product lines as required.

  • Select, construct and apply basic quality tools such as Pareto diagrams on internal and external quality concerns.

Physical & Mental Demands:

Must be able to frequently lift 10 -15 lbs. and infrequently 25 - 50 lbs. Use of two way radio occasionally. This position requires a positive attitude with a “sense of urgency” in resolving customer and production quality issues. Must be able to work entire shift of 8 hours, work overtime (10-12 hour days) and weekends

to meet business demands. Position also requires regular bending and reaching. Work environment is a plant with machine noise and lift truck traffic. Temperatures in plant vary by season.

General Duties:

-Perform duties of the Quality Technician I position as required. Conduct training as required to support the Quality initiatives defined by the organizational goals.

-Facilitate the collection of dimensional and performance information, conduct analysis of that data and report findings to internal and external customers.

-Assist in the maintenance and management of the Corrective Action and Nonconforming Material Database to ensure prompt customer/supplier feedback and management awareness.

-Conduct training and verification as required to ensure compliance to applicable requirements.

-Assist in the validation of processes associated with process and operational improvements and initiate any applicable procedural changes.

-Conduct system audits to monitor compliance to internal quality system.

-Maintain and improve the field failure analysis process.

-Support supplier certification related activities to optimize receiving inspection process.

-Assist operations personnel in the identification, development and implementation of processes, procedures and equipment designed to improve quality and operational excellence.

-Perform other routine tasks as assigned by the Quality Manager and/or their delegate. -Support and be involved in safety, PIMS and plant training programs as required. Support and maintain nondiscriminatory practices in accordance with the Division Affirmative Action Program.
