As Supply Chain Performance Engineer, you will lead efforts with material suppliers and business division Supply Chain personnel to increase supplier capability. Leads work with Caterpillar supply chain functional areas to deliver tools, processes and expertise to Cat’s suppliers to enable them to replenish material to Caterpillar pull trigger systems and develop the supplier plan for every part. This role is accountable for building supplier partnerships in the deployment of lean, high quality, high velocity supply chain practices.

Job purpose:

This role is accountable for guiding the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process within the product group. Incumbents advocate, enable, drive execution and continues improvement of the S&OP process for the product group, working with key process partners to deliver products profitably to the marketplace, maximizing inventory turns and plant efficiency, and stabilizing customer delivery performance.

Job duties:

Incumbent is accountable for the execution of the S&OP process within the product group, including providing oversight for process conformance. The incumbent may represent multiple facilities and product groups, and work across one or more regions. Overall business complexity is driven by volume, sales, sourcing strategy, the number of product lines and model mix.

This role ensures S&OP Process compliance, working collaboratively across multiple functional groups, including Aftermarket, Marketing, Business Resources, Supply Chain, Operations and others as needed. The incumbent must possess strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building ability, and proven results working effectively with senior leadership in operations and supply chain, as well as the Product Group. The coordinator must understand roles/responsibilities for the product groups as well as decision shapers/makers within other organizations that impact the execution of the process.

In addition, the S&OP Coordinator organizes and leads the Demand, Supply, Pre-S&OP reviews and Board meeting. This position requires the coordinator to coordinate and prepare material needed for the above reviews. The incumbent may lead / facilitate the Supply Review meeting across multiple facilities, product lines and regions as necessary.

The S&OP Coordinator must understand S&OP timelines, reporting requirements and decisions required at each stage of the S&OP Process, especially impacts from changes to the Business Plan and the financial impacts to supply chain and operations. This role is accountable to provide supporting facts, data and statistics that depend on their understanding of forecasts and all other inputs to the process. The role is also accountable for collaborating with Data Analytics team to utilize the data from Aftermarket and Prime sources to provide proactive insights (upturn etc.) using statistics to the leadership team. The incumbent is accountable to champion an enterprise point of view during S&OP Meetings and other collaborative communications.

Position impacts:

Incumbent is accountable to drive excellence in execution of the S&OP Process for the product group, including improvements in the key metrics of OTIL (On time in Line), Schedule Bias, Flex Funnel, SSP and other related performance excellence metrics. Incumbent will also contribute to sales and services growth targets set by the leadership team

Basic Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Operations.

  • Advanced expertise in using Power Point, Excel – advanced front end and intermediate macros.

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Business analysis skills: Using statistics and business analysis skills to present data to leadership team

Top candidates will also have:

  • College or university degree related to Supply Chain

  • Advanced expertise in using - COGNOS navigation and Ability to Navigate Tableau and PowerBI and/or basic SQL

  • Previous experience Scheduling, Production Scheduling, Master Scheduling, Machine / Components Orders Management, Industrial Engineering, Demand/Velocity Manager or Analyst

  • Possess strong collaborative and interpersonal skills in order to support the common S&OP Process across multiple departments within a business division.

  • Advanced experience and knowledge about CPS principles, specifically those applied to Sales and Operations planning, demand management, constraint management, and supply chain planning

  • Must have excellent decision-making, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to develop and advocate for recommendations on key business decisions with process partners both in and outside their business unit

  • Must be able to prepare complex concepts for presentation to business decision makers and supporting team members

  • Must demonstrate leadership to enforce process discipline across monthly business cycle

  • Strong ability to deal with uncertainty, ambiguity and be agile

  • APICS CPIM or CSCP Certification highly desired
