To do so, we will build upon our team of scientists and engineers to recruit and assemble a world-class faculty of resident and visiting scholars, safety advocates, standards experts, and business leaders who will collaborate to carry out our mission. UL is focused on emerging trends in five key program areas: Human Health, Fire Safety, Transportation, Energy, and Digital Society.

Responsibilities

n

Directs strategic communications plans that build global awareness for Underwriters Laboratories Inc. and all related science, research, standards and education initiatives. Through an integrated communications and marketing approach, we are committed to elevating UL's world class research initiatives to diverse stakeholders.

n

This role will focus on comprehensive multidiscipline communications and marketing, publishing and public relations and will require collaboration with technical experts and associated teams to leverage and amplify research. Candidate must have proven experience leading and influencing in a highly matrixed organization. This includes experience leading strategic communications for a research, academic, government or non-profit organization and a demonstrated ability to distill highly technical information into relevant and engaging content for multiple audiences.

Provides strategic planning, creative and campaign direction for the nonprofit organization and key science specific initiatives. Directs the development of organizational communication budget and resource plans to achieve measurable, long-term business results. Manages the agency ecosystem with proven multi-agency management experience required.

+ Manages multiple sub functional areas including internal communications, external communications, event management, digital, social media, metrics and insights and marketing operations.

n

+ Directs the creation of integrated communications programs based on science focus areas, research results, academic partners and intended audiences.

n

+ Serves as leader across the organization through formal and cross functional project management and organization wide initiatives.

+ Implements brand strategy to ensure consistency in portfolio and alignment with UL organizational branding and messaging.

n

+ Serves as the liaison to UL Corporate Marketing for brand, legal and communications related matters.

n

+ Develops strategic frameworks to align content, channels and audiences including technical partners, government, NGOs, industry, academia and safety science-driven stakeholders.

+ Demonstrates ability to lead cross functional teams in addition to direct people management.

+ Works to develop close collaborative relationship with science focus areas and specific communications leads to support initiatives based on team needs and allocated resources.

+ Works with leadership team to set and review the overall measurement strategy and works to improve outcomes in alignment with strategic goals.

+ Provides governance for organization-wide communications with an appreciation and respect for individual science focus area customized campaigns and unique stakeholders.

+ Must possess strong analytical and negotiation skills, ability to work with strategic leaders, and capacity to foster team collaboration.

+ Performs other duties as directed, and represents the communications function as needed in key cross-functional strategic enterprise initiatives, events and transformation projects.

Qualifications

n

n

n

+ Degree in marketing, communications, outreach, business, marketing or related field.

n

+ Candidate will have at least 10 years or more of related discipline experience including at least 5 years of management/leadership experience.

n

+ Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience managing and/or using a wide array of communications, graphics and marketing tools.

n

+ Must have experience with social monitoring, market automation, video production, media relations, graphic design and nonprofit impact reporting.
