Function: Information Technology

Title: Software Engineer - 71548

As a Software Engineer at John Deere, you will work on the Part Order Management team and support product design by planning its work, coordinating with others, and writing and testing code to deliver moderately complex functionality on a complete product or a significant portion of a product it supports. This level develops simple designs to solve well-defined problems with guidance from more senior team members. In addition, you will:

  • Be an active member of an Agile software delivery team

  • Work with your team and other delivery teams within the product to establish strong software design, data design and loosely coupled Architectural alignment in a complex application environment

  • Transform and continuously improve product to meet or exceed the product's specifications of availability, quality and user experience


  • Ensure a high quality and sustainable code base by establishing Test Driven Development (TDD) as the foundation of development

  • Ensure reliable and quality deployments using CI/CD

  • Help establish a DevOps culture on the delivery team by implementing DevOps principles

  • Work within established guidelines such as workflow or tool standards and help improve these through DevOps principles

  • Drive product innovations and new software functionality leveraging the cloud and other industry leading technologies

  • Root cause, debug, and fix highly complex application issues and prevent recurrence initiatives within the product’s code base

Proven Technical Skills and Experiences

  • 3 or more years of experience in the design, development, testing and integration of high complex software solutions leveraging change management leveraging:

    • Front-end designs and development (CSS, HTML, JavaScript)
  • Java web development with Spring and APIS (SOAP, RESTful, etc.)

  • 3 or more years of understanding of applications development environment, database, data management and infrastructure capabilities and constraints

  • 1 or more years of experience working in an Agile/Scrum team environment

  • 1 or more years of experience leveraging DevSecOps and lean development principles such as Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery such as GitHub and Jenkins pipelines including Groovy, vulnerability scanning, Selenium, etc.

  • 1 or more years of deep experience with software test automation (TDD and Unit Testing Frameworks: Junit, Mockito, Cucumber, Cypress or equivalent)

  • Hands on exposure to one or more database technologies (e.g. SQL Server, DB2, MongoDB, SAP HANA, PostgreSQL, DB2, Hibernate, NoSQL)

  • Working understanding of design patterns

  • Capable of collaborating with multiple business stakeholders to provide information technology solutions

  • Skilled in interpersonal communications, negotiation, and conflict resolution

  • Proven experience working in a team environment

  • Learning Agility / Innovative - desire and openness for continuous technical learning and identifying areas for application

  • Growth mindset - willingness to deal and thrive in uncertainty

Education (or equivalent work experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology
