Acadia Healthcare PHP - Behavioral Health Specialist in Lemont, Illinois

**This is a full-time position with full benefits. Shift Hours 2p-10:30p with an every other weekend requirement.


  • Establishes therapeutic relationships with residents that support the treatment plan

  • Provides individual resident support through group monitoring. Actively participates in the maintenance of a structured and safe milieu and follows all policies and procedures related to resident/milieu safety

  • Attends required group supervision with Director of Continuing Care

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment team primary to plan and coordinate treatment based on residents’ needs; also utilizes the clinical record as a source of information

  • Implements residents’ treatment plan

  • Demonstrates effective communication during the shift as follows:

  • Listens to report and utilizing information to provide quality care;

  • Communicates milieu and resident issues to the treatment team members during the shift and problem solves effectively;

  • Gives written/verbal report to the oncoming shift staff;

  • Ensures compliance with confidentiality of resident information;

  • Checks email once per shift at minimum to ensure up to date on all communications.

  • Reports changes in resident status to the Continuing Care Counselors, Director of Continuing Care, RN and/or therapist and implements modifications in the treatment plan.

  • Monitors and records residents’ progress with respect to individualized treatment goals.

  • Recognizes the precursors of potential crisis and unsafe resident behavior and intervenes to de-escalate residents utilizing the least restrictive and therapeutic means of intervention. Implements RMI as a last resort to prevent harm to resident or others

  • Completes all required documentation according to policies and procedures and ensures that daily clinical notes document the resident’s progress in meeting their treatment goals

  • Promotes exceptional customer service throughout the program

  • Facilitates active resident participation in the treatment process


  • Completes all responsibilities as assigned by supervisory staff

  • Attends and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings

  • May transport residents to appointments, activities and outings

  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities

  • Attends in-service education to develop knowledge and skills in addictions, eating disorders and co-occurring disorders

  • Completes all orientation and cross training modules

  • Completes initial and annual competency requirements


  • Bachelor’s or Associates degree or equivalent in Human Services

  • Experience providing mental health, eating disorders and/or substance abuse treatment services is preferred


  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; behavioral therapy methods; the assessment and treatment of behavioral disorders; and familiarity with the principles of 12-step recovery

  • Develops knowledge of eating disorders, chemical dependency and other relevant issues and demonstrates competency in providing and implementing resident care.

  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics

  • Skilled in communicating ideas and instructions, verbally and in writing, clearly and concisely
