Senior Manager, Global Training and Implementation


Vice President, Global Newborn and Child Health


Manage all aspects of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) newborn global health portfolio, including clinical skills training, implementation, evaluation, and research. Identify new funding opportunities and write grants to sustain assigned programs.


  • Direct the promotion and dissemination of newborn clinical skills training programs and evaluation of these programs for low, middle and high income countries.

  • Promote international dissemination of training programs, including facilitator training courses, program scale up, and guiding country contacts in setting up their own infrastructures for sustainable program administration.

  • Direct the development and implementation of new newborn skills training programs. Coordinate the curriculum development, dissemination, localization efforts, research, and evaluation studies.

  • Maintain relationships and manage agreements with newborn global health collaborators, including WHO, UNICEF, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), Saving Newborn Lives, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and Johns Hopkins University/Institute for International Programs (JHIPEGO). Oversee the strategy work of the international collaborators and funders.

  • Identify partnership and funding opportunities for newborn clinical skills training and direct potential implementers to the appropriate implementing partner(s).

  • Write grants to fund training, implementation and research surrounding newborn clinial skills training. Work to facilitate educational needs assessment activities, establish learning objectives, and oversee the long term evaluation of newborn health initiatives. Work with other organizations to facilitate coordination of studies, data collection, and analysis.

  • Identify and develop new components and services for newborn clinical skills training in resource limited settings. Assist in determining need, feasibility, cost, program design, and timelines for development.

  • Collaborate with AAP simulation team to incorporate innovative learning and simulation into newborn clinical skills training.

  • Lead Team Global Training and Implementation, Team NCE, and other identified teams to refine courses, offerings, services and systems

  • Prepare and monitor annual budgets. Review budget details and prepare variance reports. Work with AAP Development staff on funding initiatives and endeavors.

  • Coordinate responses to requests for legal, medical, and technical information for assigned programs and oversee contract compliance for assigned initiatives. Manage the day-to-day administration of newborn clinical skills training initiatives. Oversee the development and maintenance of their respective databases, websites, relationship management, and customer service.

  • Supervise assigned staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Bachelor’s degree in education, international affairs, public health, business or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.


At least five years’ related experience in public health program administration required, including international programs, adult or continuing education, budget management/development, and collaborating with multiple partners, preferably in a professional association setting. Grant writing experience strongly preferred. Experience with grant applications/management and supervising staff or serving as a team lead required. Proficiency in foreign language(s) highly desirable.


Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, negotiation, diplomacy, and leadershipskills required, as well as demonstrated ability to communicate with cultural sensitivity and collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents .Must be able to manage multiple complex priorities simultaneously, take initaitve, lead teams, and manage budgets, Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office, familiarity with databases, and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with web maintenance software (eg, SharePoint) and virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx) preferred. Some evening/weekend work and travel required, including international travel to resource limited areas.
