Anixter Learning Project Manager in Glenview, Illinois


Overall Responsibilities

  • The Learning Project Manager will be the glue that brings the Learning & Development (L&D) project teams together for all learning functions at WESCO! In the interim, the Learning Project Manager will partner with the learning leadership team to lead the project management function for learning and will collaborate daily with the other L&D team members to ensure that we are communicating priorities, the right resources are being allocated on projects and we are on track to meet our appropriate turnaround times.

  • This role supports all project management for the learning efforts of three Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and associated corporate functions.

  • The Learning Project Manager’s general responsibilities include creating timelines and milestones for internal learning deliverables (e.g., learning modules, ILT class creation, VILT class creation, program rollouts) in a fast-paced, high-volume environment (hundreds of projects annually). Candidate will also need to coordinate with the global Communications and Marketing teams as well as other segments and functional departments with ad-hoc projects. They will collaborate daily with L&D project leaders to align and prioritize project resources.

  • For each learning project, candidate will need to create workflows and assignments in the Wrike project management tool and track the project through intake, scope, concept development, production/design, final approvals, launch and measurement process to ensure the client’s project requirements and deadlines are met.

  • General project management tasks include overseeing projects and tracking learning programs that are 30-60-90 days out; setting up weekly touch point meetings; maintaining daily, weekly and monthly dashboards; following up daily with team members to ensure deadlines are met; and setting up appropriate kick-off meetings for strategic projects.

  • They will be the main point of contact for our Wrike project management tool, train new internal team users and groups on the system and work to continually improve our processes of working within the system.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and follow-up skills are crucial. This role provides information to others both internal and external to the learning organization; and represents the organization to internal customers and other third-party sources. They will respond quickly to all requests, helping the learning team ensure clients know the status of their projects and when final delivery will occur.

  • They will monitor and control project work, measuring project performance using our Wrike project management tool to monitor the progress of the project, identifying and quantifying any variances, performing any required corrective actions, and communicating to all stakeholders.

  • The Learning Project Manager will participate in the management of change to scope: track changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques to keep the project plan accurate, updated, and reflective of authorized project changes as defined in the change management plan. They will also facilitate customer acceptance.


  • The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in project management, learning, or in communications, with a strong background working in a Project Management Office (PMO) or in the project management space.

  • Candidates actively working towards or willingness to work towards a PMP highly desired.

  • Knowledge of the Wrike project management tool a plus but not required, however, willingness to learn and embrace the program is a must.

  • Minimum three to five years of relevant experience managing content or project delivery at the corporate or agency level is required. Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume agency environment would make this candidate stand out. Proficiency in MS O365 suite of tools a plus. This varied role will require the successful candidate to be a proven team player with a “can-do” attitude and excellent communication and detail-oriented skills.

  • Being a self-starter by nature, this person will possess effective organization and project management skills, and be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment while being flexible, adaptable and responsive to shifting priorities.

  • This person will need to be able to work independently, but also work very well within a team environment.

  • Strong communication skills are required. Also, solid interpersonal skills are necessary to support team building thereby building mutual trust and encouraging respect and cooperation among team members.

  • This role entails the ability to advocate a creative atmosphere, facilitate entrepreneurial meetings, and envision a final product and overall market acceptance early in the design and/or development process.

  • The ability to establish alliances with other departments and organizations by recognizing dependencies to assess potential partnership and commitment to the program is key.

  • Candidate must be skilled in identifying project risks by defining risk strategies and developing the risk management plan to reduce uncertainty throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Experience in a strong plus

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project, MS Office

  • Knowledge of MS O365 suite, MS Teams

  • Knowledge of Lean principles a plus
