Sr. Labor and Employee Relations Representative

This is an exempt level position.

Position Summary:

The Sr. Labor and Employee Relations Representative position reports to the Director, Employee and Labor Relations. This position acts as a liaison between employees and management, offering guidance and resolution opportunities on employee and labor relations matters. The position requires hands on experience in union and non-union environments, in leading contract negotiations, conflict resolution, positive employee relations and grievance handling.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain successful working relationships in order to influence and provide effective, consistent employee and labor relations processes, advice and support.

  • Chief negotiator representing management in direct union negotiations for collective bargaining agreements within North America and the Caribbean.

  • Works closely and collaboratively with in/outside counsel to address and resolve labor matters.

  • Provides contract interpretation to all levels of management and supervision.

  • Promotes positive working relationships between unions and management.

  • Promotes positive relations with employees while offering proactive consultation and direction to management in the area of employee and labor relations.

  • Implements union free best practice strategies that promote employee engagement and team building that supports our Values and business goals.

  • Handles workplace investigations, resolves grievances and responds to employee complaints.

  • Represents management in the analysis of employee misconduct and recommends appropriate disciplinary action.

  • Conducts wage and benefit reviews for non-union locations.

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret Federal and State employment laws and regulations as well as knowledge in the interpretation and application of the NLRB, FLSA, FMLA, and the ADA.

Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Business, Human Resources or related field required.

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in labor or employee relations, labor contract negotiation experience preferred.

  • Previous experience in arbitration presentation and interaction with the NLRB.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and conflict resolution expertise.

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are essential.

  • Successfully relates to and works with a diverse workforce in a variety of positions including senior leaders, location managers, supervisors and hourly colleagues.

  • Ability to build trust, gain support and influence others.

  • Proven ability to work independently, takes initiative and drives results.

  • Proficient PC skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Frequent travel is required.
