This role resides within the Global Infrastructure division of the CIO organization. CIO Global Infrastructure provides the platforms and infrastructure that powers IBM, allowing business and application teams to focus on creating the digital business experiences that will drive IBM forward.
Our primary focus within Global Infrastructure is driving our CIO Hybrid Cloud strategy forward. The CIO Hybrid Cloud, built with Red Hat and IBM technologies, is the engine for the IBM cognitive enterprise. It provides the speed, scale, and security for IBM's digital business experiences, connecting data, information, and people to bring IBM into the future.

In this role, you’ll have an amazing opportunity to develop and execute strategies to transform our IT Operations function using your world-class knowledge of SRE, hybrid cloud, and AIOps. You’ll be able to provide clarity and direction aimed to develop the growth of the organization through autonomous procedures and helping to identify and implement solutions to problems before anyone else realizes there’s an emerging problem.
Operations team leaders energize their staff who are willing to follow them in changing the way we operate. They also have a great understanding of the needs of each staff working under them and communicate these needs to management to ensure they have everything they need in order to be successful.
Other responsibilities include:
Lead the transformation of your assigned teams within IT Operations into a high performing Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) organization
Establish an SRE-minded culture within IT Operations
Drive and influence operational consistency (process, tooling, automation, and methodology) and across teams
Process re-engineering experience – ability to drive process maturity and optimization initiatives.
Provide appropriate coaching, direction and mentoring to employees within the group as it relates to our talent strategy, career path and professional development
Use your communication and organizational skills in a cross-functional and collaborative environment

IT Operations is part of the Global Infrastructure organization within the Office of the CIO, supporting internal employees, infrastructure and systems that help run and drive the business. There are 130 employees within the IT Operations department. Employees are located in various locations worldwide, so a creative and inclusive approach to multi-regional management, management at scale and good communication will be a high priority for success in this position.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
A minimum of 12 plus years of experience in technical/infrastructure operations, engineering, and security/compliance
Strong background in the SRE role and responsibility to the organization, infrastructure engineering, and security management
Knowledge of DevOps best practices and procedures
Understanding of Hybrid Cloud architecture and technology
Demonstrated experience in operational management and leadership
Exposure to concepts and procedures promoting autonomous operations and automation engineering
A minimum of 5 plus years of experience in leading and managing teams, key decision making and presentation skills, and ability to influence partners without direct authority
Ability to work in a 24x7 Global Team environment
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Experience/working technical knowledge in developing procedures focused on autonomous “zero touch” operations using Red Hat products such as OpenShift, Ansible, and Satellite
Experience with multiple operating systems (z/OS, AIX, Windows, Linux, etc.)
Basic knowledge of the OKR (Objective & Key Results) framework and how that helps organizations reach and achieve difficult goals
