Technical Operations

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

The project manager is responsible for managing and overseeing a wide variety of projects/programs, ranging from aircraft modification to highly complex technology projects. Serve as change agent driving adoption of United's Program Management Live Cycle Framework (PMLC) across the organization. Responsible to provide direction, prioritization and structure to enable efficient implementation of assigned projects and initiatives. Responsible for directing the implementation of strategic planning, leading and directing all aspects of a major, diverse, and highly complex programs impacting the operation. Owns hands-on delivery of programs. Provides specialized technical aviation knowledge or equivalent, program management expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills to facilitate the identification and management of all interdependencies and areas of risk. Will adhere to the UA PMLC and all policy, procedure, guidelines as applicable. The project manager, as applicable develops comprehensive business cases and conducts benchmarking, SWOT analysis, studies trends and relevant data to successfully achieve project objectives. The project manager will provide direction, guidance, or training as required to others throughout the project lifecycle to include: scoping, development, reporting, implementation, and monitoring/adjustment phases.

  • Lead and manage aircraft modification and complex technology projects

  • Provide direction, prioritization and structure to enable efficient implementation of assigned projects and initiatives

  • Accountable for planning, coordinating, executing, and communicating all aspects of highly impactful and complex programs impacting the operation

  • Serve as change agent driving adoption of United's Program Management Life Cycle Framework (PMLC) across the organization, including training and coaching team members and stakeholders as needed

  • Will adhere to the UA PMLC and all policy, procedure, guidelines as applicable

  • Provides specialized technical aviation knowledge or equivalent, program management expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills to facilitate the identification and management of all interdependencies and areas of risk

Required

  • Undergraduate degree in business, technical, or aviation related discipline

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and presentation skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite - Excel, PowerPoint, Project

  • Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • 3+ years’ experience in managing multiple cross-functional projects

  • 5+ years professional work experience

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Advanced degree

  • PMP certification

  • Lean Six Sigma certification

  • Airline industry experience

  • Demonstrated successful execution using SDLC, PMLC, DMAIC or DFSS methodology, especially in the aviation industry

  • Exposure to change management/facilitation, enterprise communication and training

  • Experience with process/system mapping and analysis

  • Working knowledge of analytical tools, data extraction tools, and data visualization platforms
