Nordstrom Program Manager Energy & Utilities Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois

Job Description

This candidate will manage a portfolio of activities to optimize and execute opportunities across Nordstrom facilities departments (stores, corporate and supply chain facilities) by monitoring energy supply and technology. Creative solutions that combine knowledge of regulated and deregulated power markets to deliver power to Nordstrom facilities is essential for the person in this position. In addition, this role will be responsible for consistently improving system energy consumption across all facilities departments, through implementing energy saving Kaizen and other continuous improvement tools. This necessitates that the ideal candidate brings an innovative, collaborative presence to the position, with the ability to drive commercial and technology execution to accomplish business goals, lower costs and meet sustainability/energy targets.

A day in the life…

  • Lead and manage energy data analysis, improvement and energy-supply contract development with utilities, landlords and third-party energy suppliers in support of Nordstrom’s facilities/businesses in North America

  • Establish and implement energy/utilities payment standard across all Nordstrom facilities sites

  • Provide and lead new equipment energy initiatives in support of low cost of running Nordstrom facilities

  • Lead and manage analysis of energy trends in the industry, market policy and regulations to proactively identify opportunities to reduce cost, minimize risk, and advance sustainability

  • Partner with internal stakeholders on site selection and energy project development, e.g. distributed energy, renewables, and provide ROI when needed. open market contracts

  • Work collaboratively with external vendors, power companies, and consultants on regional market research and open market contracts, bid and negotiate energy agreements where applicable. Implement/buy sustainable (green) energy where financially practical and explore all incentives from states and utilities companies

  • Lead and educate field teams through executing program specific assignments and milestones

  • Establish open and strong working relationship with landlords, leasing agents, and third-party vendors for all Nordstrom facilities/utilities including, water, gas, sewage and electricity

  • Develop internal business cases including providing input on financial models and market research in establishing contracts and energy strategies.

  • Excellent creative thinking skills with emphasis on developing innovative solutions to solve complex problems that may not have a clear answer

  • Demonstrate command of large amounts of complex data analysis, produce actionable insights, and command of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Proven leadership abilities in a rapidly changing environment

  • Business travel required (up to 30%, subject to fluctuation with business needs)

You’ve got this if…

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, engineering disciplines, or related discipline

  • 3 to 5 years working in the energy or energy efficiency industry

  • 2 years of experience in project management and development.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written

  • Detail-oriented with an ability to prioritize workload

  • Ability to analyze and interpret date and solve practical problems

  • Demonstrated customer service skills

  • Must be flexible to handle a wide variety of tasks and complete work in a timely fashion in a fast-paced environment

  • Team player capable of adapting to ambiguous environments with cross-group collaboration and problem-solving abilities.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communications (verbal and written) skills.

  • MBA/post-graduate degree in relevant fields preferred

  • Experience in consulting and power/energy industries a plus!
