We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated, well organized and detail-oriented

IV Pharmacy Technician 2 - Certified, Ambulatory Infusion to join our innovative Outpatient Pharmacy Department at Rush University Medical Center !

General Summary :

The IV Pharmacy Technician 2-Certified under a pharmacist's supervision, performs technical and clerical tasks associated with the preparation, labeling and dispensing of medications including sterile IV and hazardous admixtures. In addition, performs tasks pertaining to pharmacy quality control, management of pharmacy records, inventory control and preparation of orders for drugs for patients of Rush. Such medication orders are prepared up to the point of final checking and dispensing by registered pharmacists. Provides training for technicians. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assists pharmacists in coordinating, scheduling preparation of sterile admixtures and computer order entry.

  • Prepares and compounds sterile admixtures, including but not limited to antibiotics, chemotherapy, hydration, narcotic analgesics, using aseptic techniques and under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

  • Ensures the I.V. preparation room and related equipment are cleaned and maintained per organizational policy and procedure.

  • Participates with the pharmacist and Coordinator - Product Support in monitoring and maintaining drug inventories and preparing orders for drugs and related supplies.

  • Places orders with Hospital Pharmacy Storeroom, SPD, wholesalers and direct accounts.

  • Accurately manages cash receipts when required and assists in monthly pharmacy floor stock inspection of designated clinics

  • Participates in departmental QA activities as requested.

  • Completes batch and compounding records and other Pharmacy records as indicated.

  • Trains other technicians in all areas, including aseptic technique, I.V. admixture, computer order entry, and inventory management.

  • Performs within the framework of RUMC/HDM, L.L.C. policies and procedures.

Position Qualifications Include:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Valid State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician license required.

  • Valid PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred.

  • Successful completion of an approved/accredited Pharmacy technician training program desirable.

  • Experience in the aseptic preparation of large and small volume parenteral, parenteral nutrition, antibiotics and chemotherapy desirable.

  • Knowledge of basic drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug use and aseptic technique.

  • Excellent data entry and verbal communication skills.

  • Flexibility with work schedule and dependable in attendance and job performance

  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work independently and quickly in responding to and resolving a wide range of problems.

  • Good organizational and time management skills.
