Responsibilities

Managing Consultants in the Energy, Sustainability & Infrastructure (ES&I) segment work closely with energy-related clients to design and implement complex, transformation programs in a rapidly changing environment. Focus areas of our Managing Consultants include Energy Systems Modernization, DER & Renewables Integration, and Risk, Security & Compliance. Within these focus areas, the Managing Consultant role focuses on assisting energy-related organizations (including utilities, independent power producers, energy end-users, regulators and other organizations) to develop and facilitate the successful implementation of business strategies, operating plans, business processes, organizational structures, and supporting infrastructure.

Managing Consultant-Grid Modernization own client engagements from cultivation to completion. In this role, you will be accountable for the activities of the project team and support the day-to-day management of the client relationship. You are expected to effectively develop and manage work plans, staffing, deadlines and budgets for multiple complex projects simultaneously. Work products are expected to be high-quality and client ready. In this visible role, you will lead team meetings, and guide, manage, and coach consultants and senior consultants, providing constructive feedback on project participation and overall career development. Managing Consultant-Gid Modernization work closely with Directors and Partners to keep them abreast of project progress and important developments. Managing Consultants-Grid Modernization support sales initiatives and practice development

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading workstreams that enable the assessment, and development of reliability projects/programs, T&D planning, DER interconnection impact studies, grid hardening, emergency/storm restoration as well as T&D business strategies, operating plans, business processes, and organizational structures.

  • Applying knowledge of utility planning, engineering, and operations to support the design of client deliverables.

  • Applying technical competencies in areas such as T&D engineering, planning, and operations as well as Lean process improvement and project management “on the ground” with clients.

  • Leading high-level client interviews and facilitating engagement with key project stakeholders to gather information and build support for projects.

  • Designing and building client deliverables, working closely with both Navigant and client peers.

  • Communicating solutions and recommendations to clients through reports and presentations.

  • Performing data collection & analysis and statistical & engineering/planning analyses in support of project objectives.

  • Providing detailed fact finding, research, and analysis in T&D trends and related areas to further support delivery.

  • Working with minimal oversight and helping to manage client relations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (electrical engineering preferred) or related technical discipline

  • 4-6 years of experience with utilities or utility consulting organizations (excluding telecommunications)

  • Strong knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • Electric utility distribution engineering

  • Distribution planning including the use of planning tools such as CYME, Synergy, etc.

  • Transmission and Distribution operations, maintenance, and emergency restoration distribution operations tools such as DMS, OMS, SCADA, etc. (ideal)

  • Asset management including the use of tools

  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills.

  • Superior interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and slide presentation software.

  • Currently reside or ability to relocate to SE Market area

  • Ability to travel as needed

  • Due to contract requirements, US Citizenship restrictions apply

Preferred QualificationsIn addition to the above qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or MBA

  • Certification in Lean, Lean Six Sigma, project management, change management preferred.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

  • 2+ more additional years utilities or utility consulting organizations (excluding telecommunications)
