We are seeking a dynamic Epic Application Lead to join our Epic Ambulatory team with IS Clinical Systems here at Rush University Medical Center!

This is a Full Time position

80 hours every two weeks

Position Highlights:

The Ambulatory Epic Application Lead supervises activities supporting the analysis, design, development and maintenance and support of EpicCare Ambulatory and related systems . Under moderate supervision, maintains the project plan, task list, issues list, and status reports. Works with the user community to develop processes, document workflows, work with analysts to determine system specifications, ensures communication and training and maintains close relationships with the user community. Analyzes problems in terms of systems requirements as well as policy/procedure and training requirements. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities:


  • Leads medium sized team for medium duration projects.

  • Maintains communication with all team members to ensure conformance with requirements of each project and user expectations.

  • Directs and monitors the activities of team members.

  • Provides input for peer reviews


  • Is recognized as a leader within the IS department or special segment of the customer community.

  • Identifies issues and risks.

  • In appropriate forum, takes unpopular stands if necessary, but is comfortable with supporting decisions he or she may not agree with.

  • Looked to for direction in a crisis.

  • Enforces department policies. Provides input for peer reviews

Technical Skills

  • Is not only an expert in certain skills, but shows an awareness and knowledge within multiple business or technical areas.

Project Planning

  • Authors and executes project plans for medium sized projects.

  • Leads teams to complete accurate Statement of Work.

  • Manages risks.

  • Brings projects to closure within reasonable variances.

  • Uses resources effectively and efficiently

Communication and Influencing Skills

  • Authors and reviews policies and procedures, technical and/or support documentation.

  • Develops collaborative relationships with customer base.

  • Leads design and validation sessions todetermine system requirements and review development.


  • Develops content and conducts departmental sessions in area of expertise.

  • Assigns challenging tasks to team members.

  • Versatile learner and open to change. Coaches project team members.

Business Sense

  • Well versed in overall business functions.

  • Understands impact of change across the organization.

  • Accomplishes tasks through formal and informal channels.


  • Identifies and pursues opportunities for process improvement.


  • May develop budgets for sub-projects or smaller tasks.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications Include :


  • Certification in EpicCare Ambulatory or other related Epic clinical application

  • Minimum 5 years experience.

  • Bachelors degree or better in computer science, information systems, or related field.


  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • Independent and resourceful.


  • Well versed in overall business functions.

  • Command of common office tools (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, e-mail)

  • Experience with MS project.

  • Experience with Epic/Clarity a plus
