City Colleges of Chicago Director of Financial Aid in Chicago, Illinois

Primary Objective: The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for college-wide financial aid operations and the administration of federal and state veteran benefits, ensuring responsive and accurate policies and procedures that comply with regulatory agencies, meeting the strategic goals of the District and the College, and providing an exceptional customer service environment for students.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Develops, facilitates, implements, and monitors financial aid and veteran benefits policies and procedures in a manner that is compliant with federal and state regulations and CCC policies.

  2. Supervises both union and non-union staff, including hiring, training, performance monitoring, disciplinary action, and development.

  3. Collaborates with Student Services Offices, Business Office, faculty, and College and District administration to ensure the Financial Aid Office’s complete alignment with institutional goals and participates in annual planning and budgeting for the Financial Aid Office.

  4. Evaluates academic programs to determine eligibility for financial aid and veteran educational benefits, maintains an up-to-date E-App with the U.S. Department of Education, and advises academic departments on the Title IV program approval process, including Gainful Employment regulations.

  5. Conducts financial aid presentations and workshops for current and prospective students, community-based organizations, and other CCC partners and works strategically to build and strengthen relationships between the college and the community in order to encourage enrollment and increase retention.

  6. Oversees the processing of institutional scholarships including the coordination of the college scholarship committee, review of applicant eligibility, and the updating of an electronic scholarship tracking system. Processes athletic scholarships according to guidelines published by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

  1. Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree in Finance, Business, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration or related fields strongly preferred.

  2. Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in a Financial Aid Office, including a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a Financial Aid Office.

  3. Expert-level knowledge of the state and federal regulations that govern financial aid and veteran educational benefits and of the resources available to research compliance questions.

  4. Expert-level knowledge of the software used to process financial aid and veteran benefits, including Common Origination and Disbursement (COD), National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG), VA Once, FAA Access to CPS Online, and the E-App.

  5. Experience with both internal and external audits, including responding to findings and developing an improvement plan and appropriate controls to prevent repeat findings.

  6. Experience in working with diverse students and in guiding them to making personally optimal choices for financing their education
