What You Will Do

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the AMITA Health acute care hospitals, ambulatory services, and physician enterprise, as appropriate.

  • Interfacing with senior business partners, hospital administrators and physicians

  • Participating in various strategic and operational initiatives on a wide variety of health care/legal issues as requested, including but not limited to working with system leadership and hospital administration on contract matters, including contract drafting and identifying issues arising in connection with contracts; coordinating and managing significant transactions, including developing appropriate transaction structures, managing and participating in due diligence, and preparing transaction documents

  • Compliance investigations and audits in collaboration with Compliance Department representatives; advising on regulatory issues, including complex Stark, Anti-kickback EMTALA and tax-exemption issues

  • Analyzing legal and factual issues while conducting legal research to resolve common operational concerns

  • Advising on and preparing corporate organizational documents, including corporate resolutions and other documentation for corporate changes

  • Working with outside counsel and other department members overseeing litigation; and other tasks as assigned.

What You Will Need

Education & Experience:

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence required and must also be licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois.

  • Must have a minimum of 5+ years of experience as a licensed, practicing attorney with experience working in a law firm or in-house legal department, or combination thereof (prior healthcare experience required) or equivalent experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Solid understanding of Stark and Anti-kickback rules, regulations and enforcement actions; Strong health care contract negotiation and drafting skills, including in the area of physician contracting.

  • Solid understanding and experience working on transactions, including joint ventures, acquisitions, divestitures, mergers and other affiliations and co-management arrangements.
