In this position, you will be assisting patients with their registration needs. This department is known for their dedication to customer service. Job Summary This position, under the supervision of the Admitting Supervisor and Admitting Manager, is responsible for the daily duties inherent in the registration, pre-registration of medical, surgical (Outpatient Registration, Emergency Department and Pre Admission Services) process as defined by the hospital procedures. Job FunctionsCollects payments from patients and/or responsible parties, issues receipts and allocates to appropriate patient accounts.Communicates payment responsibilities and develops appropriate payment plans to assist the patient.Under general supervision completes all hospital registrations (Inpatient, Outpatient, Pre Admission Service (CAS), Emergency Department)Establish insurance criteria and selects appropriate insurance planVerify insurance and pre-certification as neededObtain/collect patient's pertinent socioeconomic informationObtains appropriate signatures for consentsEnter appropriate data accurately into the on-line Information systemCollect co-pays and/or deductibles at the time of serviceWork closely with department personnel such as: Cardiology, MRI, CT, Laboratory and Radiology, etc.Maintain the work areas in an organized and orderly condition, restocks office suppliesHandles incoming telephone inquiries from physicians, RN's, and patients.Requires the ability to handle a variety of tasks with speed and attention to detail and accuracyPerform other job duties as assignedThe ability to deal effectively, empathetically, and professionally with patients and the general publicDemonstrates a positive, supportive attitude when providing assistance to patients, family membersAssist physicians on issues as it relates to the Admitting departmentEnsures patient registrations are performed according to the organization standards and in compliance with external and regulatory agenciesUtilizes reports generated from the financial system, calculates and estimates patient charges for the patient and/or guarantor prior to service.Required Qualifications1-2+ years of demonstrated Clerical/ Administrative Customer Service experience1-2+ years of demonstrated professional Customer Service/Clerical experience it relates to a hospital environmentTyping requirement (minimum 25-30 wpm)Experience in the basic computer software programs Must poses strong written and verbal communication skillsRequires good analytical and problem solving abilityDemonstrated ability to develop others in areas of continuous process improvement, and customer service, Delivery and self-directed team workRequires maturity and ability to appropriately represent the department to other internal and external customer strong commitment to the development of staff
