Carrier One Inc Shop and Service Manager in Alsip, Illinois

We have been retained to hire a Shop and Service Manager. This position will be placed with an aggressively growing commercial tractor/trailer maintenance facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the profitability of the service shop, control expenses, and maintain customer satisfaction

  • Manage the day to day transactions, staffing, and tooling to promote maximum asset utilization by scheduling and dispatching technicians to ensure smooth and timely repair progression

  • Ensure timely and accurate invoice processing, parts orders, quotes, and customer follow-up

  • Invoice all completed services and sales the day the work is completed

  • Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staffing levels, to ensure that activities are performed effectively, and to respond to fluctuating workloads while limiting overtime

  • Lead & manage a team of X direct reports and X indirect reports in accordance with company policy and procedure

  • Hire and retain diesel technicians and shop personnel to keep shop and operations at capacity

  • Provide training on administrative policies and procedures for all shop personnel

  • Communicate with employees and management on a regular basis to insure Company and industry acceptable process and procedures are followed, new procedures and processes are considered, and new approved processes and procedures are implemented effectively

  • Forecast goals and objectives for the department and ensure they are met

  • Understand and comply with federal, state and local regulations that affect service department operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA right-to-know, etc

  • Create and implement process improvements to maximize efficiency and profitability

  • Encourage technicians to keep their skills up-to-date through periodic technical training on new systems and components offered by manufacturers.

  • Keep up-to-date on manufacturer warranty and policy procedures while serving as a liaison with the factory representatives

  • Obtain and maintain shop equipment for proper servicing of class 8 trucks

  • Report and document any work-related injuries to management and HR

  • All other duties as assigned

  • Able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and otherwise get around indoor, outdoor, and other general work areas and equipment

  • Willing and able to work in outdoor type conditions, including inclement weather

  • Minimum of high school degree, prefer Associates or Bachelors

  • 5 years management experience in a service shop environment

  • 7 years of Class 8 truck experience
