Director, Gross Margin Improvement

Location: US Abbott Offices, not a Remote role

General Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Division President and acting as a key member of the executive leadership team, the Director, Gross Margin Improvement identifies and implements high-impact initiatives to deliver sustainable improvement to profitability. She/he works with the leadership team to gain broad alignment for long-term strategy and roadmap to deliver division gross margin profile as defined in the long-term strategy (Organic Execution Model).

  • Develops roadmap to achieve gross margin profile and gains alignment with the division leadership team and other key stakeholders. Defines roadmap milestones and tracks and reports progress against those milestones.

  • Establishes proactive, transparent, and effective communications cadence to ensure timely dissemination of information with the senior leadership team and other stakeholders.

  • Performs benchmarking and cost structure analysis to identify significant opportunities for improvement across functions.

  • Partners with the leadership team to define and assign goals, develop project funnels, support execution, and manage / mitigate risks.

  • Builds a cross-functional network of GMI champions across all areas of the Division to ideate, evaluate, and implement specific projects and actions to achieve GMI goals.

  • Ensures high-impact programs are defined, resourced, and implemented to achieve financial objectives as defined in the OEM. Ensures effective change management plans are defined to identify and mitigate risk and ensure the sustainability of the changes.

  • Develops and deploys sustaining tools and processes to support the evaluation and identification of opportunities across direct and indirect spend areas.

  • Collaborates closely with Global Procurement and Global GMI resources to support the Division’s journey.

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience managing large ($10MM+) programs and cross-functional teams across multiple international locations.

  • Familiarity and experience working across functions (e.g., Operations/Supply Chain, Regulatory, Quality, R&D, Finance, Commercial, HR, et. al.); natural tendency to think about key questions/issues from an integrated, cross-functional perspective.

  • Track record of synthesizing diverse perspectives into cohesive, aligned recommendations; ability to develop an inclusive culture comfortable with challenging current paradigms to achieve and exceed goals.

  • Demonstrated skill at influencing outcomes by catalyzing and shaping dialogue across the organization. Assertiveness and resiliency to appropriately engage and challenge peers and business leaders on key strategies to make decisions in the best interests of Abbott.

  • Exceptional project management skills, with proven ability to clearly define objectives and priorities, establish milestones, anticipate and mitigate risks, lead cross-functional teams to meet and exceed goals in a dynamic environment, while maintaining strong attention to detail and quick recall.

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage qualitative and quantitative data through analysis, identify insights, and translate to actions.

  • Experienced managing ambiguity and proactively sensing risks; demonstrated ability to uncover hidden (or less obvious) risks, take ownership of problems, exercise sound judgment, and independently determine the appropriate course of action where precedent may not exist.

  • An approachable and credible communication style, with exceptional verbal and written communication skills, to keep all levels of the organization informed, engaged and motivated.

  • Excellent collaboration skills – able to navigate complex matrix within the Division and the broader Abbott organization to ensure alignment of priorities and partnership throughout program execution.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, business, or finance field is required.
